Local History Specialist (Full-Time)

Downtown Newark

Under the general supervision of the Adult Services Coordinator, the Local History Specialist manages the acquisition,
organization, maintenance, and preservation of the library’s local history collection. The Local History Specialist
implements local history programs and instruction to enhance access to and understanding of a broad range of rare book,
manuscript, archival, and digital materials.
This is a full-time position; 37.5 hours per week. OPERS Retirement. A job offer will be conditional upon successful
completion of a background check. The successful candidate will be scheduled to work days, evenings, and weekends at
the Downtown Newark location.
Minimum Qualifications and Principal Duties
 High School diploma or equivalent required.
 Bachelor’s Degree in History or closely related field from an accredited college or university required.
 One year of experience in a historical institution or organization or one year working with a significant local
history collection and service to clientele.
 Demonstrates experience in teaching, and/or public speaking.
 Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to provide own transportation when participating in off-site library
business.
 Must successfully pass a background check.

Pay Rate
The pay for this position is $17.00/hour. This position is eligible for the library’s fringe benefit package. Holiday Pay
Eligible.
