BUCKEYE WINERY RESTAURANT MANAGER
POSITION SUMMARY:
Buckeye Winery is a boutique, family-owned and operated winery in downtown Newark, Ohio. We specialize in crafting quality wines, dry to sweet, from juices sourced from regions across the world. In addition to a customer-friendly tasting/dining room we also pride ourselves on educating the home winemaker and giving our customers the ability to make their own wine here at our location.
The Restaurant Manager (RM) is responsible for promoting Buckeye Winery to the public. The RM will oversee the Tasting Room along with the sale of wine and non-wine products at the winery in order to maximize sales potential. The RM will oversee the daily operations of the Main Room ensuring that the team is providing exceptional customer service and promoting the high quality wines to make the experience at Buckeye Winery memorable for every visitor. The RM is also responsible for the daily kitchen operations as well as completing the duties and skills involved with being a Team Member.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greeting the public:
  • ?h Work approximately a 38-40 hour week, winery hours are:
    • Tues-Thurs – 12:00 to 7:00 pm
    • Friday – Saturday – 12:00 to 9:00 pm (with some 10:00 pm closing times)
  • ?h Greet visitors as they enter the winery and invite them for a tasting
  • ?h Efficiently coordinate and manage with wine servers to give our customers a consistent and pleasant customer experience through the staff’s actions as well as your own.
  • Provide the latest information on the wines, our history and be able to respond to visitors questions
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the tasting room menu, including but not limited to wines, food, and other products and procedures.
  • Perform Wine Server duties on day shift (you will potentially be the only wine server working during the week day (12-4:00 pm, Tues-Friday)
  • Train wine servers on all information pertaining to wines and visitor experience (as listed above)
    • This also includes being sure staff is informed on new procedures and menu items
  • Effectively sell and train staff to sell the wine including but not limited to:
    • Menu presentation
    • Serving
    • Suggestive selling / Up selling
    • Asking customers for identification
    • Speaking knowledgably about Buckeye Winery in general in addition to our wines
    • Be knowledgeable in other things that Buckeye Winery offers including the Making of Wine, able to hold parties, public and private parties
  • Maintain and potentially create staff schedules
  • Oversee sales at the register and train staff as needed on register
  • Oversee the opening/closing procedures for sales, and daily operations
  • Manage the inventory of wines for tastings and sales
  • Manage wine server team by assigning/delegating necessary daily duties (dust, sweep, trash, stock shelves, etc.
  • Merchandise and maintain the displays to effectively sell wine, gift items and other products through restocking, pricing and moving around for visual effects
  • Schedule customer parties, explain requirements and take deposits
  • Educate the public on where to find Buckeye Winery wines at retail, restaurant and outside events
  • Maintain a friendly, warm and clean tasting room environment (inside room and outdoor areas)
  • Unlock and Lock outdoor tables
  • Maintain clean restrooms
  • Assuming responsibility for the overall cleanliness of the tasting room, back rooms and kitchen throughout the day and before the close of night.
  • Assuming responsibility for the tasting room and kitchen’s overall operations, efficiency, compliance with procedures and customer satisfaction
  • Meet regularly with ownership to review performance
  • Filling in when necessary in emergency situations
  • Complete other duties to satisfaction as assigned
Behind the scenes:?n
  • Keep winery clean, organized and re-stock shelves
  • Be able to assist in the kitchen with any menu items when needed
  • Assist customers in making wine by the batch
  • Create wholesale invoices
  • Work with the management team on regular promotions and events
  • Work with the management team on marketing incentives
  • Coordinate with management team on staff schedules
  • Coordinate with management team on all outside events and inform staff & public of where Buckeye Winery is on any given day
  • Other duties as necessary (bottling wine, labeling wines, etc.)
  • Supervise and possibly assist in a clean kitchen, and ensure proper shutdown procedure for dishwasher
Skills and Abilities:
  • Minimum 3 years winery, restaurant or retail experience
  • Management Experience required
  • Restaurant/Wine Server Experience required
  • Must be a team player HOWEVER, must also possess a leadership and authoritative attitude where staff respects your leadership by presenting yourself in a direct but pleasant manner
  • Must be highly motivated, independent and able to take direction from proprietors
  • Previous managerial experience in hiring, training, and supervising employees a MUST
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively
  • The ability to handle high pressure situations; can handle customer complaints with tact and professionalism, turns dissatisfied guests into fans
  • Extensive knowledge of wines and wine production helpful
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Ability to develop, implement and reach sales goals
  • Ability to provide customers with a positive and unforgettable experience
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings and potentially some holidays
  • Must be detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Professional appearance, leadership and attitude an absolute must!
  • Be knowledgeable and able to perform all tasks asked of a wine server and kitchen staff position in the case of needing to fill in during emergency situations and to be able to train appropriately.
Includes:
  • This position will offer a 38-40 hour work week
  • 40 hours paid vacation after employment for one year
  • 24 hours paid sick leave after employment for one year
