ATHLETIC DIRECTOR - ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION

QUALIFICATIONS: 
           

  1. A Master’s Degree or higher in educational administration preferred.
  2. College degree with relevant experience.
  3. A minimum of at least three years of coaching preferred.
  4. Successfully complete and pass a BCII and FBI check.
 JOB GOALS:  To serve as the district leader in the area of interscholastic athletics and is responsible for all aspects of the district athletic program in grades 7-12.
 
REPORTS TO/EVALUATED BY:  Superintendent
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop full schedules when feasible for all high school and middle school interscholastic teams. Scheduling may be done by coaches in various sports with approval of the Athletic Director. This shall include the writing of game contracts and official contracts when necessary.
  2. Meet all officials reporting for games; show them to their dressing room.  Arrange for police coverage for football and basketball home contests.
  3. Follow all accounting procedures as prescribed by the Treasurer of the Lakewood Local Schools.
  4. Schedule transportation for all interscholastic teams and compensate all drivers for these trips.
  5. Provide each coach with a transportation schedule.
  6. Notify all visiting schools of the rules and regulations regarding the use of Lakewood Local School facilities.
  7. Arrange for the printing and distribution of schedules where necessary.  Prepare, with the assistance of each Head Coach, yearly budgets for all sports and keep them on file for examination.  If there is disagreement between the Head Coach and the Athletic Director, the director shall be the final authority.
  8. Supervise the purchase of all equipment.
  9. Obtain awards for all coaches in all sports following a set custom for such awards given to all coaches; also arrange for presentation of these awards.  Presentation of awards should be arranged as soon as possible after completion of each season.
  10. Keep a record of award recipients for each sport.
  11. Schedule the use of facilities for practices and games for school teams.
  12. Attend and supervise as many home contests as possible with the assistance of the Faculty Manager and the building administration.
  13. Obtain all auxiliary help for home contests in conjunction with coaches of these contests such as gate helpers, timers, scorers, sideline chain crew, announcers, etc. for home contests where necessary.
  14. Arrange for a team physician and ambulance to be available for all home football games. Also arrange and publicize a date and time for physical examinations prior to the beginning of each new school year.
  15. Schedule the preparation of all necessary facilities prior to all home games.
  16. Obtain facilities for practice or competition away or off of Lakewood Local School property when necessary either for regular season competition or for special occasions.
  17. Keep on file all physical examination cards.
  18. Attend as many Licking County Athletic Association and Licking County League meetings, Central District Athletic Directors Association meetings, State Athletic Directors association meetings, and Athletic Booster Club meetings as possible. Also any other meeting, gathering or seminars which might provide information essential or valuable to the operation of the interscholastic athletic program in the Lakewood Local Schools. Supervise the mailing of all required schedules and sports participation cards to the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
  19. Assist coaches with travel plans, meals, over-night accommodations, etc. concerning team trips to tournaments, scrimmages, or contests.
  20. Supervise the selling of tickets for district, regional and state tournament games in which Lakewood athletic teams participate.
  21. Prepare financial reports for all home athletic contests where admission is charged.
  22. Maintain financial records of all income and expenditures of the athletic department.
  23. Order and distribute medical supplies for all athletic teams.
  24. Obtain and keep on file an inventory sheet in each sport and athletic facilities.
  25. Approve the broadcasting of sports in radio or television media.
  26. Recommend the hiring and firing of all coaches on the athletic staff.
  27. Make recommendations to the high school principal concerning the future development of the total interscholastic program.
  28. Make recommendations to the principal(s) regarding general field/court maintenance
  29. Maintain compliance with all OHSAA rules and regulations.
  30. Responsible for coaches’ meetings and orientation program for new coaches
  31. Evaluate head coaches annually per district guidance.
  32. Ensure that coaches and volunteers have appropriate credentials and training for Pupil Activity Permits.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • 223 Contract Days
  • Salary determined by Administrative Salary Schedule
