The Art of Public Speaking with Emily Smith
In support of Intel’s $20B investment in Ohio, Emily Smith leads Community Relations & Sustainable Operations for Intel across the buckeye state. In this role, she oversees community engagement, local government affairs, environmental sustainability and communication.
Emily previously served as the Senior Vice President of PR and Media Relations at Huntington National Bank where she oversaw corporate and regional media and public relations activities across Huntington’s multi-state footprint. She also served on the ESG Council, Climate Risk Committee and the Green Team.
She spent fifteen years in state government including the Ohio Senate, Ohio Department of Education and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Emily’s prior experience also includes serving as Vice President, Media Relations and Community Engagement at JPMorgan Chase where she served as point person for all media relations and community engagement activities for Ohio and five additional states which encompassed six million customers and 30,000 employees.
An award-winning choreographer and creative director, Emily spent three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers which included three trips to the NBA Finals and the historic championship win over Golden State in 2016. She’s coached collegiate and professional athletes from all over the country.
Active in the community, Emily is STEM advocate committed to increasing science literacy and providing pathways to enable the next generation of innovators. Her first vehicle was a John Deere and she spent many years raising livestock for 4-H and earning badges as a member of the Girl Scouts. Her summers in a canoe fostered her deeply rooted passion for environmental education and conservation. She carried this love to THE Ohio State University where she earned a degree in Natural Resources. She also graduated from Capital University Law School and Franklin University.
As empty nesters, Emily and her husband Stuart live in central Ohio with their environmental education animals including a ball python, a leopard gecko, an enormous Maine Coon cat and a rat named Bruce. Their daughter, Buzzy, holds degrees in dance and social work from Ohio Wesleyan University and THE Ohio State University. She’s the owner of an immersive dance academy dedicated to improving mental health by reducing bullying, abuse, racial inequities and self-harm in children and teens.
